I like to clear the air on these two terms as they are often used interchangeably.

Accountability or accountable means you must ensure the task is completed to specifications.

Responsibility or responsible means you must complete the task to its specifications.

Let’s take opening a location on time.

The multi-unit manager is accountable.

The general manager is accountable. If scheduled to open, they are also responsible.

The scheduled shift supervisor is responsible.
