This one will be quick. You can’t ”manage” to achieve goals. Goals are directional only. “Am I headed in the right direction?”

Think back to grade school.

Maybe you wanted to be on the honor roll.

What did you have to DO to make honor roll (goal)? Could you just wait for a report card and hope you made it? Sure. Usually that doesn’t work! I know, ask my freshman year teachers! You had to attend class, study, practice, review, you had to put in the work. On the second Tuesday of the semester, you didn’t care about honor roll. You cared about prioritizing your homework or studying.

Business goals are the same.

Be clear to understand what PROCESSES lead you to the desired goal.

• [ ] Do you know how to perform those tasks?
• [ ] Does your team know how to perform those tasks?
• [ ] Do you know how to train to those tasks?
• [ ] Do you know how to coach to those tasks?
• [ ] Can the goal be measured by you?
• [ ] What will your TEAM earn when you achieve the goal?

Knowing what to do makes work meaningful. Celebrating the wins makes work tolerable.
