Welcome to week 3. You’ve identified your teams’ gaps in week one. You took week two to train, coach, or change the environment. Now it’s time to give feedback. This week is where you make your money as a leader. Your team is going to find obstacles, revert back to their original state, be depressed that change isn’t happening fast enough.
Remember a few keys:
If you have multiple locations, this week is a heavy travel week. Having the team tell you what is going on isn’t good enough. Be there. Be present. See the change. Commend them on their ability to complete the task asked, the result will come even if it isn’t yet.
It’s cheerleader week. Any time the task is completed but the desired result hasn’t occurred, take the blame on yourself. Revisit the training, coaching, and environmental change. Did you choose the task that will create the result, or did you choose the task that worked before?
Take time for yourself this week. Each night document what went right and what you could be better tomorrow. This will help you communicate better with your team when you choose to create change next month.
