Let's dive into my first controversial statement: You are training and coaching a team, not adopting and raising a family.
On a team, you have Most Valuable Players. In a family, no one can be the favorite. (I know, I know, I’m sure you were their favorite too!)
On a team, people leave for more playing time or better pay. In a family, people leave to escape you, or they die. (That typed out more morbid than I wanted.)
On a team, you upgrade when possible, thanking traded players for their service. In a family, you buy Aunt Edna a bad gift, hoping she'll learn to cook.
You're not their mother, father, sister, or brother. You're a leader.
You'll make choices that change people's lives, for better or worse.
I’m not saying you shouldn’t care.
I am saying that families can’t get fired or have their business closed. Only family can win game night not the Superbowl.
Make decisions to improve your team.
Take care of the team and they’ll take care of the customers
